Back in Februrary 2011, the Treasurer's Office raised enough money to sponsor a “Honor and Remember” flag to a fallen soldier’s family from Chesapeake. The flag was presented during the 2011 Freedom Festival held at the Chesapeake City Park.
The flag was presented to the family of a soldier who was one of the 29 fallen Navy Seals killed in the deadly helicopter crash in August 2011. The soldier was Special Warfare Operator Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Kevin A. Houston, 35, of West Hyannisport, Mass. Below, Mrs. Carraway helped present the flag to his widow, Meiling Houston, who lives here in Chesapeake with their two sons and daughter.
